The Incredible Story of Mike Clever

In Mr. Manley’s Bible class we are studying Bible doctrine. The one that we studied most recent is God’s providence. I was assigned a creative writing assignment to show how something that man looked at as bad God used for good. I wrote the Incredible Story of Mike Clever for this assignment. As you read the story keep in mind that mine was more on the normal side than most of the others in the class.

The Incredible Story of Mike Clever

It was a regular Saturday afternoon, in a regular town, in southern Arkansas. Mike Clever put down his Xbox controller and decided to make his weekly trip out to the mail box. Mike was a very established thirty-eight year old. He considered himself to be one of the best in the business, if playing Halo could be considered a career. Mike was a professional Halo player. As he was filing through the letters a certain one caught his attention. The postage stamp was from Saudi Arabia. Mike went inside and opened the letter while starting a new game of Halo. His jaw dropped as his eye ran across the page. His great Uncle Abdul-Kibosh had suddenly died, leaving Mike $250,000 dollars of oil money that he had obtained over the last couple years. Mike had never had so much money in all his life and he knew exactly what he was going to do with it. As he paused his Halo game, which was a great sacrifice in and of its self, he then walked a full ten feet across the room to get his laptop. By the time he made it back to the couch Mike was exhausted. He quickly flipped through his favorites until he got to eBay. Mike did ALL of his shopping on-line, even his groceries, (he always bought those from Safeway because they had free shipping.) With Mike’s new found money, he would finally be able to bid on all those cool eBay auctions. He had tried to buy the pretzel that looked like the Virgin Mary last year but he ran out of money once it got past a thousand. There was just too much cool stuff to make a decision quickly. Mike decided to sleep on it, and make his decision tomorrow. As he was getting into his bed, which was also his couch, he had a hard time going to sleep. The days exciting events were still running around in his head. Mike couldn’t decide which was cooler, inheriting a quarter million dollars, or beating Halo in twenty minutes on legendary mode. He finally fell into a deep sleep.
Mike rolled out of bed early the next afternoon, and then proceeded to get back on his computer. After he had browsed eBay for a couple hours, he had finally found what he was looking for. Mike was ecstatic. He scrolled down the page at a feverish pace, and entered $250,000 dollars in the bid box. He had just bought the eBay ‘grab bag.’ He wouldn’t know what it was until he opened the box. Mike decided to look who was selling this amazing deal. The seller was jihadistsanonymous.
“Sounds reasonable enough,” Mike decided. The only problem was that the estimated shipping time was two weeks. “How am I ever going to be able to wait that long to see what I spent my quarter mill on?” questioned Mike to himself. Mike decided that the time until the package came should not be wasted, but instead used effectively. So he sat down and started playing Halo.
Those two weeks were tortuous for Mike who was constantly pondering what could possibly be in his surprise package. Finally the day had come. This was the day the package was scheduled to arrive. Mike was so preoccupied that he could not even concentrate enough on his game to even kill one grunt. It was around four O’ clock when Mike heard the mail man pull up to his apartment. As he looked out the window he could see that the mail man was putting a package into his mail box. Mike quickly paused the game. He then proceeded to head towards the front door. As he was opening the door he heard loud music accompanied by a heavy bass. As he stepped outside, he saw a black Cadillac Escalade parked in front of his mail box. He was just in time to see the passenger steal his package and get back into the car. As the Cadillac sped off Mike raised his hands to the sky and yelled “God, why have you allowed this great evil to happen to me, one of your faithful servants?” As the words were coming out of his mouth, he heard a loud boom, and saw a small mushroom cloud appear a little way down the street. Suddenly it hit Mike like an express train, that his surprise package had been a bomb. Mike dropped to his knees and thanked God for sparing his life. As Mike went back inside he began to notice that his life was really quite empty, he longed for something more. Mike sat down on the couch and rededicated his life to Christ. He then went on to go back to college, and eventually ended up a missionary to Africa. Mike was very thankful that his surprise package got stolen out of his mail box

The
End

This story was very normal considering that Matt Kelly wrote one about a boy that gets abducted by aliens while lost in the woods, and the good that comes out of it is that his family never went hiking without a map again, and the boy went on to witness to the aliens and teach them about Christ.

Spring Break 07

Dear Fellow Bloggers,

On April 6-14, I will be going down to Mexicali, Mexico with a group of high school students from Santa Rosa Bible Church. I will be going down to Colonia Polvora, one of two villages that our group will be ministering to. The purpose of our short-term trip is to (1) share the gospel of Jesus, (2) to encourage the saints in the church in which we minister, and (3) to grow in our understanding of missions and our relationship with Christ.

I had the privilege of going on this trip two years ago as freshman, and last year as a sophomore. I had an amazing time; I can’t wait to go again this year. The thing that I most enjoyed about last years trip was probably just playing soccer with all the kids down there. I really saw how much we have compared to what the average family has there.

Would you be willing to help us out in one way? The most important thing we need is prayer. I believe that prayer is the single most important thing for our trip to be successful. Would you consider praying for me during our preparation and during our trip?

Thank you again for your prayer and support I am exited about what God is going to do in my life through the Mexico mission.

In Christ,

Johnny Rowlands

A New Blogger on the Block

OK i finally decided to get not only a blogger ID, but to also start my own blog. I was reading my Uncle Jeff's Blog earlier today, it was his six month old light bulb joke. OK Its funny the first time...maybe..but after six months its time to move on to something new. Maybe a knock knock joke that couldn't be too hard. It was after going through his twenty six comments (which is more comments than i have seen on any other blog) i decided that even I could be a better blogger than my Uncle Jeff. So even though he has not been the most exciting blogger, he has inspired a new blogger. That is all i have time for since i have to go finish my spanish homework.
